Sovereign AI means the model weights, the training and operational data, the compute and the deployment environment all remain inside the owning country's or institution's legal and physical control. For government use, that means citizen data never leaves the state's perimeter, and no foreign entity can throttle, retrain or discontinue access to the model. Maha-1 is built as sovereign AI for India, deployable on sovereign cloud, state datacentres or fully air-gapped infrastructure.
